Exterior Swing Doors

Exterior swing doors hinge along the sides of the doors. Standard swinging doors typically do not exceed 3 feet 6 inches in width, 8 feet in height, and 1-3/4” in thickness, due to panel construction and hinge weight.  Once these parameters are exceeded the door needs more engineering and drives cost.  Another performance feature to consider is the exposure of the swing door to sunlight. Wood doors require a 10-foot overhang to protect them from expansion and contraction. Alterative materials to wood, such as fiberglass, are also used to help improve the longevity and performance of the door.
