A true French casement, or door, has no framing between the two windows, or door panels, when in the open position. The astragal is placed on the primary operating side for water and air protection. Often confused with a mulled double casement or double door which has framing separating every window, or door, sash. Due to the engineering of these style of doors and windows the overall net frame size will not exceed 76 inches for windows, and 84 inches for doors. Typically, they will not be narrower than 36 inches for windows and 50 inches for doors.
